Classical Singer Dr Prabha Atre: Famous classical singer Dr. Prabha Atre died on Saturday, January 13 due to a heart attack at her residence in Pune. 92 year old Dr. Atre represented the Kirana Gharana of classical music. He was honored with all three Padma Awards by the Government of India. According to sources, “Atre suffered a heart attack while sleeping at his residence. He was admitted to a private hospital in Kothrud area of the city where he was declared dead at 5.30 am.
The source said that some people of Dr. Atre’s family live abroad. Therefore, his last rites will be performed only after his arrival. Dr. Atre was born on 13 September 1932. She was not only a classical singer, but also a researcher, musician and writer.
Dr. Atre was a versatile talent
Dr. Atre obtained a doctorate in music after graduation in science and law. In January 2022, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second highest civilian honour. Earlier, he was also awarded Padma Shri in 1990 and was given Padma Bhushan in 2002.
Dr. Atre kept fighting stereotypes
Dr. Atre has been fighting stereotypes throughout her life to make classical music accessible to the masses. If she wanted, she could also become a successful doctor. But he followed his heart and chose music. She had promised herself that she would keep singing till her last breath. He graduated in science from Fergusson College, Pune and later took a degree from Law College, but he considered music as his spiritual practice.
After receiving the country’s second highest civilian honor Padma Vibhushan in 2022, she had said in an interview to Bhasha, “I was studying law and science and had not even dreamed that I would become a singer. My parents were academics and my mother’s illness brought music into our home. She used to learn harmonium and I used to sit near her. He left music but did not leave me.” He also composed new ragas like ‘Apoorva Kalyan’, ‘Madhurkans’, ‘Patdeep’, ‘Malhar’, ‘Tilang’, ‘Bhairav, Bhimkali’, ‘Ravi Bhairav’. of.
She said, “As a seeker, I can never be satisfied because there is no end to learning.” I want to sing till my last breath and also want to work on other aspects of music. I want to take classical music to the general public so that they can learn it easily because if this does not happen then classical music will not survive.
